When you are able to shift your weight and move your feet properly, you will not only be able to get to a great finish position, but you will also transfer the power from your hips to your club effectively.

Unfortunately many golfers do not pay any attention to their feet at all.

Of course there are stationary points during your swing, but then again not really. At the top of your backswing most of your weight should be on your right foot, if you are right handed.

In your finish your weight should be completely on your left foot with your right foot lifted on its toes.

A great thing you can do to achieve a better feel for your feet and a good weight shift is to practice barefooted or in socks.

This may sound weird at first, but trust me on this one.

All the padding and support of your golf shoes may be great support on the course, but it also makes your feet numb and unresponsive to the ground and you do not feel your own weight shift as good.

Take a look at Sam Snead for example who worked on his swing barefooted in his younger years and even played a couple of tournaments without shoes later.

Sam Snead was known for his fluid beautiful swing and balance and that is no coincidence. If you have not seen his swing yet I encourage you to take a look.

The internet makes things so easy these days.

When you are practising barefooted or in your socks, try to work on all kinds of shots from long game to short game.

I bet that you will gain some insights into proper balance doing so.

If you really want to go for it, you could even play a round of golf this way.

Obviously you only do this under dry conditions. But you always have the option to practice at home, of course.

  • Work on your swing and technique barefooted or in socks.
  • If you want to go for it, play a round of golf barefooted.
