Even if it was just by chance, it is a moment that motivates many people to work on their swing, because they know that they are able to perform those shots.

So quite naturally this feeling is connected with positive emotions and success.

A typical advice for the mental game is to think positively. I give this advice, too.

You are hearing this so often because it works. Of course it is foolish to think that you just have to imagine a great shot you want to perform to make it reality.

If you do not have the proper technique and experience, you are very unlikely to make the shot you visualized.

But that‘s not the point. All positive thinking and visualization has mainly one task in my opinion. You want to get into state.

You want your body and brain to remember all the things you have learned so far to make a great swing.

And that is exactly where the sweet spot comes in. When you are thinking about a ball that was struck well by you, it is not just about visual cues. In fact it is more about feel.

There is all this theory about visual people and kinaesthetic people, and there is some truth to that. But I think the golf swing benefits most from a good feel for it.

So I want you to think of a ball you struck well. Think of the feeling that came through your club to your hands.

The feeling of the ball not resisting at all and going where you  intended it to travel. Really feel it and get in the moment and nourish that feeling.

If you ever need a swing thought, use this feeling and you immediately remember and feel that you are able to perform great shots.

Throw away all mechanical thoughts and stick with this for a while in your pre-shot routine.

Just try to incorporate it and see what happens.

  •  Remember the feeling of a well struck ball you hit exactly at the sweet spot and make it part of your pre-shot routine.
