If you incorporate some of the following tips into your game I am sure that you can shave some strokes of your game pretty fast.
[clearboth] Tip #1: Be smart and drop it like it’s hot!
Honestly don’t be that guy that let’s his ego get in his way. When your ball is in big trouble don’t be a hero but start thinking about your dropping possibilities immediately, every time.
This might sound unexciting but will help your score tremendously.
Tip #2: Don’t let madness get you on the tee!
Do you know the definition of madness? It’s doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results.
Golfers are often the maddest people on earth.
When you played your ball out of bounds from the tee don’t get another ball and do the same thing again.
Take a different club and try to keep the ball and your score in play.
The same applies to similar situations e.g. on the fairway.
Tip #3: Tee it up on the hazard!
When you’ve got a hazard on the right side. Tee it up on the right side and aim more to the left.
This way you have the best chances to avoid the hazard and a good position for your next shot.
Tip #4: Don’t three putt!
Great tip. You probably say easier said than done. But take a look at your last score card and think about how many shots you could have saved by preventing unnecessary three putts.
Definitely do a couple of minutes of putting during your warm-up before your round. Don’t rush it. You can pick up your ball on the green and align it towards the hole.
Take advantage of that every time.
Tip #5: Have a plan and you Play Better Golf Immediately
Never ever just go for the flag or try to just hit it to see what happens.
Always think about where you want the ball to land and how you want it to roll etc.
This is especially true around the green. When you chip or putt try to think about possible misses.
E.g. you at least want the easier uphill putt if anything goes wrong.
Planning for your mistakes is smart golf. Have a positive image of a good shot but keep in mind the smart side to hit the shot to be safe. Avoid short siding yourself on greens missed and always try to hit below the hole so that you are putting uphill if possible.
