Many athletes practice specific breathing patterns for a reason (e.g. swimming, running or precision sports like shooting).
If you try specific breathing patterns you will see that you can positively influence your game.
Try to incorporate the following pattern into your pre-shot routine.
To be more relaxed get into the rhythm of your back and downswing.
You can try it at home by simply moving into your address position and simulating your pre-shot routine or you can exercise on the range or actually on the course.
Before each shot take a deep breath through your nose for a count of four and breathe out through your mouth for a count of eight.
This will put you into a more relaxed state of mind and make you focus more.
It will also keep you from hitting one ball after the other on the range.
Please do not swipe this breathing technique aside as too simple.
Its power comes from doing it regularly and incorporating it into your routines.
Be diligent about it. If you do this the first few times try to recognize actively how your breathing relaxes you during difficult situations or if your training on the range does not work out as you want to.
- Practice your full swing at home on the range or go play.
- Take a deep breath during your pre shot routine.
- Breath in through your nose for a count of four and exhale through
your mouth for a count of eight. - Recognize how you relax more and more with each breath.
