It is easy to let your whole golf swing fall apart with one missed shot. You must also be able to adjust yourself to swing tendencies that you might have that particular day.

This exercise will not only be a challenge, but will let you experience first hand how much your swing can change over a longer period of time.

It is simple. I want you to spend a day at the range and hit a thousand and one balls. You do not have to hit them continuously.

I want you to take breaks and stay focused. This exercise is not about hitting as many balls as you can in as little time as possible.

Think of it more like a marathon. Keep a steady pace so you do not run out of gas midway through.

If you think that a thousand golf balls are just too much for you, pick another goal (e.g. 500). But make it hard for yourself.

It has to be a challenge, it has to be tough. Take aim with each shot and do not fire away mindlessly.

Pick a target or imagine a fairway you want to hit. My guess is that you will experience a lot of ups and downs during this day.

There will be times when you think you get it and times when you only want to stop.

When I went through this exercise for the first time I started with confidence which faded away with each missed shot.

Half way through I thought I cannot play any more and did not want to go on. But I did. And my shots got better and playable again towards the end of my session.

These up and down feelings will teach you a lesson for the next time something goes wrong with your swing during a round of golf.

Because you know that you can pull yourself together.

  • Hit a thousand and one balls at the range.
  • Take breaks. Don‘t wear yourself out. Take aim! Pick a specific target
for each shot. When you start to beat balls mindlessly take a break
