#10 The Golf Book

The Golf Book: Twenty Years of the Players, Shots, and Moments That Changed the Game

The Golf Book might not have the most creative name of the year but it’s definetely one of the more interesting golf books of the year. Under the brand name of the Golf Channel it features the most iconic moments of the past two decades in golf.

Great photography, stories and writing make this book a perfect coffee table addition or stocking stuffer (although it’s probably too big for that ;-) ).

#9 OptiShot Golf Simulator

Dancin Dogg OptiShot Infrared Golf Simulator

The OptiShot is an affordable golf simulator with good graphics and a reasonable accuracy for the price. Of course it can’t be compared to a more expensive product like a Trackman but for what it does, it does very well.

The technology is simple. You’ve got a small stripe of artificial golf turf that includes two rows of infrared sensors.

When you swing your clubs through the ball the sensors track your clubhead speed, face angle and club path. From this data the simulator calculates the ball flight.

Everything is very easy to setup and use.

As the OptiShot can’t track your golf ball like more expensive radar systems do it has problems with mishits like thin or fat shots but otherwise it’s quite accurate.

Included are a couple of famous golf courses you can play on or challenge your buddies in different play modes. You can also use a virtual driving range where you can practice your target and driving skills.

To use the OptiShot reasonably you need the space in your home to swing your clubs, of course. You get the most realistic feel by hitting actual golf balls into a net. Maybe you can set it up in your garage? The next best thing is using almost golf balls. Those are made out of foam so you can’t damage any interiors. ;-)

I think the OptiShot golf simulator is a perfect tool to keep swinging over the cold winter months from the comfort of your own home.
