If you want to go for a birdie or eagle on the Par 4s and Par 5s, you must be able to drive the ball well.

Most beginning players fear to hit the tee shot with the big stick.

Of course it is clever and right to play it safe, if every ball off the driver would be out of bounds. But the club choice instead of the driver most often is not.

Most beginning players play it way to save off of the tee, but try to do some miracle shots on the rest of the course.

It‘s almost schizophrenic, as they have the best conditions for making a good shot right off the tee.

So today I want you to really go for it. Scores will not matter that much today.

Play a round of golf and really focus on your tee shots. You do not want to play safe. But you want to attack those fairways smart.

If you slice, tee it up on the right and aim a little to the left to keep the ball in play.

You want to drive your ball as far as you can on every hole. It does not matter if every second ball will go out of bounds, just do it.

I am sure you will surprise yourself what you are capable of. But do not fall into the trap of thinking you are becoming some kind of superhero.

Play to your best capabilities for the rest of each hole. When you are done, take a look back at your round and cherish the best tee shots you were able to pull off. Maybe take some notes which club you used and what you liked about it.

It might be a good addition to your birdie book (see: Day 6 – Mental Game – Birdie Book).

  • Play a round of golf.
  • Hit your tee shots as far as you can.
  • Do not be afraid to use clubs you normally do not touch.
  • Cherish your best shots after the round.
