The competition and level of play is so high that a stroke per round can be all that stands between winning the tournament or losing the tour card.

All the best players who keep winning tournaments have the ability to somehow perform a specific shot when it is needed most.

They make the putt or turn the game around with an impossible approach.

You can only guess what pressure they are dealing with in their minds and what they are thinking of.

Fortunately you can experience some of the excitement yourself every time you are on the practice tee with a simple visualization exercise.

Of course it is far from actually being in those moments, but it gives you an idea of how you would handle those stressful situations.

If you are dealing with fear on the course yourself, it may even put things into perspective for you.

First go on the internet to YouTube and look for some great shots of your favourite players.

Take notes on where and how exactly the ball was laying and how the player performed the shot.

Then try to replicate the same situations on your local course. Once you have setup everything exactly like you have seen it on the video, try to get in the moment.

Visualize being in the same situation the player was in. Use your imagination to its full extent. Then step up to the ball and perform the shot.

This exercise is not about making the actual shots but about feeling the moment and appreciating the performance of the specific players.

  • Go on YouTube and look for famous shots of your favourite players.
  • Take notes on the exact situations (ball positions, players etc.).
  • Replicate the shots on your local course.
